Welcome to Taupo Fishery Focus, the bi-monthly online newsletter for anglers who fish this world class trout fishery.

Shorter days and colder mornings are a signal for anglers to prepare for the arrival of spawning rainbows. Reports claim anglers have been encountering good conditioned fish at a number of river mouths along the eastern shore of Lake Taupo, and fresh-run fish have been caught in most major tributaries following rain. If the trends witnessed in recent years continue, we can expect a small early run of larger fish, with numbers building progressively towards a peak in late winter and early spring.
